Living with purpose

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord ’s purpose that prevails.

Proverbs 19:21 NIV

We have all made plans to do things in our lives. We have ambitions that we strive towards. Climbing the ladder of success is an admirable ambition in the world. The plans of our hearts vary vastly from person to person. Many of our plans are good, morally sound,  but they’re our plans nevertheless. God isn’t interested in our plans for our lives. He’s interested in us fulfilling his purpose for which he created us. He isn’t merely our Saviour. He wants us to submit to his Lordship over our lives.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9 NIV.

There aren’t two phases of salvation of him saving us and then us declaring him as Lord as an optional extra. They are one and the same. Salvation is us coming under his Lordship and submitting to his purposes for our lives. God will do whatever is necessary to thwart our plans for his purposes to prevail in our lives. Does this sound harsh? Absolutely not! He is our maker and his purposes are the best that he has for us.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
