See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.
Isaiah 49:16 NIV
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
John 10:27-28 NIV
To engrave something means to carve a design into a hard surface. It isn’t the same as drawing on the surface, which can be removed. An engraving is a permanent part of the surface on which it has been engraved. It, therefore, has to be careful thought out before doing the engraving so as not to ruin the surface on which the engraving is going to be done.
God has engraved you on the palms of his hands. He did this at the cross with Roman nails. When he went to the cross he had you in mind. He made you his own and holds you dearly in his hands. This is the safest and surest place where we could ever be, from where no one, and nothing, can ever snatch us away.
Jesus was talking about his sheep – his followers who have believed in him as their Lord and Saviour.
